∼The Middle of the Garden∼

My experiences from walking and talking with Jesus in the middle of life's garden…a blog by Janet Williams

I’ve been watching a show called “Turquoise Fever” lately. On this show a group of turquoise miners go about a very barren landscape of a group of hills and dig down into the rocks for the gemstone known as turquoise. Apparently, they own a large swath of this very rocky and barren land and have mining rights to it.

From all outward appearances, this land seems devoid of anything of value. It looks like the kind of land that I would drive right by going onto a much more scenic place. But, as the show displays, these people see beyond the large, rocky, barren hills with a knowing that just beneath the surface somewhere is a large vein of gemstones. They see the hidden treasure.

This is where they drill holes in the rocks and put some kind of explosives down into those holes and blast away at the outer rocks to reveal what they had thought was there all along. Later on in the show, we get to see the turquoise stones which have been cleaned, shaped and polished. All of the beautiful, vibrant colors are brought out and put on display ready to be placed in earrings, bracelets, necklaces, belts, etc.

As I have thought about this entire process, I have come to realize that this is the transformative work that God is doing in us who are in Christ. Once we accept Jesus and ask Him to come into our hearts, the Holy Spirit deposits within us this rich vein of beautiful gemstones that are Christ Himself. The Holy Spirit implants this into our soul. However, it takes God to see past the outward, fleshly being and past our inward faults and flaws to see that beauty that is His Son, Jesus, running richly through us. It is because He now owns us that He has mining rights to us. That which He implanted as a rich vein of treasure is now the very thing He promises to bring out for all eternity.

None of us likes trials or sorrows. None of us asks for these to come our way. We hate the kind of things that God must do in order to blast away at the rocky, worldly, useless stuff that surrounds His implanted Son in order to bring out the best part of us to the surface. Just as each turquoise stone that is mined comes out to be a very unique piece, so too is what God mines out of us. As we go through the trials, suffering and heartaches of life our purified souls are mixed together with Jesus implanted within us through the Holy Spirit and the word. This creates a unique quality and color to the stone that is us. It all depends on the fiery furnace that God has used to forge that vein.

As I gaze upon myself by using that inner mirror of introspection I always manage to see the rocks. I see the failures and the ways I’ve disappointed myself. I see the character flaws and the moments that I was (to put it truthfully) a jerk. I see my shortcomings and wonder how God can see anything in me worth loving. To me, I look like a rocky, good-for-nothing landscape that is only worth driving past on the way to something better. But, being in Christ, I have God’s promise that I am not seen by Him as a fault factory but as a holder of His most precious possession, namely His Holy Spirit Who implants His beloved Son, Jesus, within me.

This is where I have to recite this scripture below and I have to trust that He is faithful and will not give up. I have to trust that He looks past the things of the outward self that I cannot change and He gazes upon His own heart beating within my soul. So, here is the gemstone of a scripture that helps me to see the hope that I have for my future.

I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return]. Philipians 1:6 AMP

The scriptures tell us that God’s eyes roam about the earth seeking out those He can bless. One day, as I was meditating on this, I began to see that God’s eyes roam the earth seeking out the presence of His Son, Jesus. He will always bless the holder or bearer of His Son. God, the Father, will always bless the active work of Jesus’ blood as it flows through those of us whose hearts are truly His.

For those who have never accepted Jesus as their Savior and believed on Him to be Saved; for those who have never received the indwelling Holy Spirit, you are but a dark thing living in a dark world. Jesus is the Light of the World but if He is not within you then there is only darkness within you. As God’s eyes roam about looking for those He can bless and as He searches for the Light of the World within each of us, he cannot see what is not illumined by the Light of His perfect love. God has no connection or contract with that which is in utter darkness.

One who is in this state may argue that they feel God’s presence and that they feel God’s love. They may state that they see the love of God moving in their life. This is all true and it was designed to be this way to bring all to a saving knowledge of Jesus. God wants everyone to feel His presence and His love but He doesn’t give us those awareness’ in order for us to stop there and think that because we feel God that we are automatically acceptable to God.

There will come a day when a great dividing line will be drawn. God will remove His Spirit from this earth and remove His offer of salvation through Jesus as well. This will be the day when no one left here on earth will feel God’s presence or His love again, unless they accept His Son Jesus.

The time of God’s allowing us the free will to accept or reject Jesus as our Savior is drawing to a close. God will not contend with us humans as things are now perpetually. He will close the doors. This way everyone will know exactly where they are in their standing with God. Everyone will have to decide once and for all time as to whether they will accept Jesus or they will never, ever accept Jesus as the Son of God and Savior of the world.

As for me, I continue onward to the high calling in Jesus. I bear up under the weight of suffering and trials as best as I can and only with His grace and mercy to comfort and guide me. I constantly expect that He Who began the good work in me will see it through to completion on that glorious day of His coming to collect His beloved Saints. I am eager to see the beautiful gemstone which is me that He wrought in secret places in my soul come forth into His radiant light for all eternity.

What about you?
